Been listening to tapes on a Walkman.

What stage of lockdown is that?

Another simple but impactful piece from Uncommon and The Guardian.

Keep an eye out for any branded social media posts acknowledging today with pictures and words… then wonder why they can’t be more like this - art direction and copy writing.

Slightly concerned and conscious that the posts are having a consistent theme about living, with that subtle undertone of work life balance tipping more towards life than work.

Following on from the previous outlaws from Home Body. Reading sentiments like this more and more.

Art and craft has become hustle and work (see also Austin Kleon Post) but to make good art you need to live. It comes from life, not work.

‘Work’ waters down art. It adds pressure - time or commercial. It brings committee. The need for reviews. Suggested changes. It becomes a project, not art.

Productivity Anxiety from the book Hom Body by Rupi Kaur.

I can’t even remember whose Insta Story i saw this book on, or why I jumped to order it BUT as far as a poetry book goes it’s enjoyable.

Dark and deep from the start.

But I just got to this three page section onProductivity Anxiety and unlike the books I’d normally read that try to explain it or rationalise it - in this instance you feel it.

We’ve all been there. Or maybe heading towards it. Not a good place to be and needs to spark that question on do I really want this, why am I doing it, is it worth it.

Random one, but worth noting.

Saw the gold Adidas in the DSM Sale, added to basket… then stopped and thought. What If I take the £65 and put it into Crypto.

So, waited for Bitcoin to drop back down below £30,000 to put £30 in that. then £25 in Ethereum at £900 and £10 in to Uniswap.

Uniswap, I don’t know much about it but I rate the Do Lectures very Highly and saw it mentioned within their Makers & Mavericks, and with such a low buy in, thought why not.

Small numbers but interesting test of going from gold trainers to see how real cash grows in the time would have taken them to arrive.

Trying out Coinbase. Don’t forget this is all risky, don’t use money you don’t have or mind potentially losing.

THERAPY. Been there, tried that. If I’m honest I don’t think I found the right therapist and also I was trying it for the first time in Lockdown remotely through a screen. Having spoken to others, it sounds like the in person, out of our own environment is the best way to do it.

But the main thing is, do it.

Listening to the (RE)SESSION Podcast, a series hosted by Rapper Jeezy touches on a whole load of the stigmas that some people might have around it and the experiences and feelings we just expect or file away as ‘normal’ but they aren’t.

It’s a great conversation with psychiatrist and therapist Dr. Jess.

Maybe you’ve been thinking about it but unsure, maybe you’ve not considered it but feeling down, tired, frustrated, different - give it a listen see what you think, you might like it.

I quite like Tim’s thinking. I felt it had maybe gotten a little overhyped and cliche more recently. But listening to this, understanding where it started and hearing him talk about his achievements in a reflective way changed all perceptions and there’s loads of great nuggets of advice within here.

WARNING over achiever alert. Might not be for everyone at this point in time but hopefully it helps rather than frustrates.

Powerhouse group of artists chatting.

The 20 minute mark, they talk about moving on from things too early - creating art, a style, a sound - making it great then moving on to the next thing rather than doing it again.

Progression and growing is good, finding a thing and doing that over and over and over, getting better and better is cool too.

Being at the top of your game it’s fairly easy to make that call - bored? move on, need money? Just redo the thing. Sometimes it feels like in every day work we can be guilty of moving on too quick. Do we understand what we did, what worked, did it work that well is there room for improvement. Why not do it one more time better than before, if everything is new everyone is not seeing, it’s worth doing again for more to see or experience.

And this quote from Virgil around the 20 minutes mark:

“one level of my work is designing at Louis but my real job is to make sure there are six young black kids to take my job after me” - Virgil

Toxicity of side hustles. Just have a hobby, something you do that you enjoy and want to keep doing, never for the potential of money.
